Back in May, 2012, Chris Guillebeau was in town (Houston, TX) as part of his $100 Start Up Tour.
Since I make my living by giving away stuff, it was natural that I wanted to give something to Chris as a reminder of our meeting.
Then I saw the bicycle on the cover of his book, and made a balloon bike for Chris, which he graciously acknowledged as he took the podium.
Afterwards, I talked to Chris and offered to make balloons for the attendees of WDS in exchange for an opportunity to attend the sold out Summit. He told me to email him the next day to talk about it.
After the talk, I also got to meet my friends Chris and Cherie of Technomadia fame, who are featured in the book.
(I know, too many free restaurant meals have caught up with me. I have since dropped eight pounds, and am working on losing another 15 by the time I return to Houston at the end of August.)
Then, another opportunity presented itself when Chris needed a ride back to his hotel. I chauffeured him back to his hotel in my Mobile Domicile and told him about my business model of giving away balloon art to people and let them decide what it is worth to them, and how I am earning a lucrative income doing that. And the fact that I can travel around whenever and wherever I want and conduct my business wherever I am.
Finally, as we got to his hotel, Chris asked, “You really want to go?”
“You better believe it,” I said.
He said OK and we shook hands.
I decided to be myself and have fun with it, so I showed up and asked. The rest, as they say, is history.
